For developers and AI assistants · API v1

California insurance guidance, ready for your application.

Read supported capabilities and standard California liability guidance as JSON. These two public endpoints require no API key and return source references and review dates. They do not calculate premiums or submit quote requests.

Requests, caching and errors

Responses include Content-Language, an ETag and a cache lifetime of at most 300 seconds, shortened to the remaining source-review window. Send If-None-Match with the ETag to revalidate; a matching current response returns 304 without a body. HEAD returns headers without a body.

Check review_expires_at before presenting a response as current. This is an exclusive UTC timestamp. verified_on records a source check, not the effective date of a law. content_revision identifies the content edition; API v1 identifies the interface.

StatusMeaning
400Unsupported or repeated query keys, invalid locale, oversized request target or GET body.
405A method other than GET or HEAD.
406The request does not accept JSON.
503The reviewed guidance is unavailable or its review window has expired.

These errors use application/problem+json and Cache-Control: no-store. Unknown paths use the website’s normal 404 response. Extra query fields are rejected rather than echoed.

There is no published throughput guarantee or custom per-client quota. Cache public responses, use bounded retries, and respect any infrastructure Retry-After header. This service does not require customer accounts.

Scope and privacy

  • Public guidance only. No premiums, insurer rankings, underwriting eligibility, policy purchase or SR-22 filing.
  • No names, email addresses, phone numbers, VINs, street addresses or driver profiles are required or accepted as inputs.
  • Standard liability guidance does not cover every statutory program or individual situation. Confirm applicable requirements with the official source or a licensed insurance professional.

How this relates to the website and MCP

The website, this API and the MCP city-guidance tool share the reviewed claim reader. QuoteMoto’s existing MCP service is a separate tool interface; its filing-derived RateFoundry estimates are outside this public JSON contract. An API read or a link to the website does not create a lead or consent to contact.

MCP endpoint: https://mcp.quotemoto.com/api/mcp
Uses MCP POST messages; opening it as an ordinary web page is not a tool invocation.
